The English Department is committed to giving students a strong background in all language arts skills:

  • Writing

  • Reading

  • Written and oral English language conventions

  • Listening and speaking strategies

All classes meet the California Common Core State Standards. Students must be enrolled in an English class every semester until graduation. A total of 40 credits earned are required for graduation.

Classes Offered

  • English 1: College preparatory English for Freshmen

  • English 1A (Accelerated): for those who love to read and write extra

  • English 2: Sophomore level College prep English

  • English 2A (Accelerated): for those who love to read and write extra

  • Genres of Composition: a college prep English class meant to be take concurrently with English 3 to make up credits for an earlier failed class

  • English 3: Junior level College prep English

  • ERWC: Senior level college preparatory English

  • Advanced Placement English Language and Composition (normally grade 11)

  • Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition (normally grade 12)

  • Gothic Literature: an English elective the explores gothic writers.

  • Beginning Journalism
