Guitar 1

Guitar 1 is a course designed for beginning guitar players who are interested in learning the basics of playing the guitar. Students will start by becoming familiar with the parts of the instrument and how to care for it properly. The course will cover classical guitar technique and the playing and reading of individual notes. Students will gradually progress to playing melodies, basic chords, and simple songs, as well as ensemble pieces. As the year progresses, more complex chord progressions, scales, and music theory will be covered. In the second semester, students will perform in a concert with their class to showcase their progress and demonstrate what they have learned. This course is open to all students who are interested in learning how to play the guitar, regardless of their prior experience.

Guitar 2 - 4

Guitar 2, 3, & 4 is a continuation of the skills and techniques learned in Guitar 1. This course is designed for students who have already completed Guitar 1 or have demonstrated a mastery of the skills taught in that course. Students will continue to build upon their foundation in guitar playing and music theory. More complex playing techniques, such as bar chords, fingerpicking, and improvisation, will be explored. Students will also delve into more challenging music pieces, both solo and ensemble. An emphasis will be placed on solo and ensemble performance. Guitar 2 students will take part in the second-semester guitar concert and in the district guitar festival. Prerequisites for this course series are Guitar 1 or teacher approval based on demonstrated knowledge of skills taught in Guitar 1.
