MRWC (Mathematical Reasoning with Connections)

MRWC (Mathematical Reasoning and World Connections) is a specialized course offered after completing Integrated Math 3. It is designed to enhance students' number sense, mathematical fluency, reasoning, and logic skills. The curriculum of MRWC revolves around exploring the interconnectedness of various mathematical strands, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, ultimately bridging the gap between Integrated Math 3 and Calculus.

Throughout the course, students engage in collaborative activities, working in small groups to organize and present information that leads to meaningful solutions. These activities encourage students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. By presenting their findings in class, students further enhance their communication and presentation skills.

MRWC is divided into two semesters. The first semester, Reasoning with Numbers, delves into a comprehensive study of numbers, ranging from natural numbers to complex numbers. Students explore topics such as logarithms, the unit circle, and trigonometry, gaining a deeper understanding of these mathematical concepts.

The second semester, Reasoning with Functions, focuses on the study of various functions, including their features, characteristics, and representations. Students analyze and manipulate functions to grasp their behavior and explore their real-world applications.

While MRWC primarily targets students who plan to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields in college, it can also be taken by incoming juniors interested in non-STEM majors. However, the decision to enroll in MRWC as a non-STEM student is subject to the recommendation of the Integrated Math 3 teacher and the counselor.

By completing MRWC, students fulfill the A-G requirements, which are the subject requirements for admission to the University of California (UC) and the California State University (CSU) systems. This course equips students with essential mathematical skills and a solid foundation for further studies in mathematics and related fields.
