Math Essentials
Math 1 & 2 Essentials
Math 1 Essentials is a course offered at Santa Teresa High School that covers the essential curriculum from the first half of the CCMM1 text. The course provides students with the necessary foundation and knowledge to succeed in higher-level math courses.
In Math 1 Essentials, students will learn various mathematical concepts and skills, including algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, functions, and more. The course places a strong emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking, and mathematical reasoning, allowing students to develop their skills and build confidence in their abilities.
Overall, Math 1 Essentials is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their mathematical skills and build a solid foundation for future studies. The course provides students with the necessary tools and knowledge to succeed academically and prepares them for higher-level math courses.
If a student continues in the Essentials program, then they well enroll in Math 2 Essentials. Math 2 Essentials is a one year course that fulfills the CCSS-Math 2 requirement for high school graduation. The fundamental purpose of the Math 2 Essentials course is to extend and build upon the mathematics that students learned in their first year math course.
Instruction time, infused with the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice should focus on the following critical areas: (1) Laws of exponents and rational exponents; (2) Compare key characteristics of linear, exponential and quadratic equations; (3) Create and solve equations and inequalities involving linear, exponential and quadratic expressions; (4) Use probability to make predictions and (5) Establish criteria for similarity of triangles based on dilations and proportional reasoning.
