Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) is a free, hands‑on technical training program for juniors and seniors across multiple Silicon Valley districts, including ESUHSD. Located at 760 Hillsdale Ave in San Jose, SVCTE offers year‑long courses in 11 industry sectors—such as cybersecurity, film & video production, health science, automotive technology, culinary arts, and more—many of which fulfill UC/CSU “A–G” requirements. Students split their day between their home high school and the SVCTE campus—earning up to 30 credits per semester, high school and college credit where applicable, while learning from industry professionals. The program offers free bus transportation, and enrollment is coordinated through your school counselor, usually via spring counseling meetings or info nights. Space is limited, so interested students should meet with their counselor early to apply.
To apply for SVCTE, you must be an 11th or 12th grader on track to graduate. Start by meeting with your School Counselor during your Spring 1-on-1 scheduling appointment, where your eligibility will be reviewed. If you're eligible and interested, your counselor will provide you with the SVCTE course selection link.
We highly encourage you to attend the SVCTE Info Night offered at Santa Teresa High School to learn more about the available programs and how they fit into your graduation and career goals. Please ask your counselor if you would like to know when this is, as the dates change from year to year.
After expressing interest:
You’ll choose your preferred pathway/program
Selected students will be notified and required to attend a Mandatory Registration Meeting during tutorial
Note: Due to limited space, final placement is determined through a lottery system
Make sure to stay on top of deadlines, check your email, and work closely with your counselor to secure your spot!
