Algebra 1 & 2
Algebra 1
Algebra 1 is a college-prep math course that is a graduation requirement at Santa Teresa High School. This full-year course covers the Common Core State Standards for Algebra 1, which include standards from the conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, and Statistics and Probability.
The fundamental purpose of the Algebra 1 course is to build on the concepts learned in Geometry and establish a solid foundation in algebraic reasoning. Through this course, students will deepen their understanding of algebraic expressions, equations, and functions, and develop the skills necessary to apply these concepts to real-world problems.
Instructional time will focus on six critical areas:
Develop fluency in solving linear equations and inequalities.
Understand and apply the properties of exponential functions.
Analyze and interpret quadratic functions.
Model and interpret data using statistical analysis.
Explore systems of equations and inequalities.
Use functions to describe relationships between quantities.
Throughout the course, students will engage in a variety of activities to help them develop their understanding of these critical areas. These activities may include problem-solving, collaborative work, and the use of technology. Students will also have the opportunity to practice and develop their skills through regular assignments and assessments.
At a glance:
The course focuses on essential algebraic concepts and skills necessary for success in higher-level math courses and real-world applications.
The course will cover six critical areas, including linear equations, exponential functions, quadratic functions, data analysis, systems of equations, and functions.
Regular homework assignments and assessments will provide students with opportunities to practice and develop their skills throughout the course.
Algebra 2
Algebra 2 is a college-prep math course that is a graduation requirement at Santa Teresa High School. This full-year course covers the Common Core State Standards for Algebra 2, which include standards from the conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Statistics and Probability, and Geometry.
The fundamental purpose of the Algebra 2 course is to extend and deepen students’ understanding of the concepts learned in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Through this course, students will develop advanced algebraic skills and prepare for higher-level math courses.
Instructional time will focus on six critical areas:
Extend the understanding of functions, including polynomial, rational, and radical functions.
Analyze exponential and logarithmic functions.
Explore trigonometric functions and their applications.
Model and analyze data using statistical methods.
Use complex numbers and systems of equations.
Apply advanced algebraic concepts to solve real-world problems.
Throughout the course, students will engage in a variety of activities to help them develop their understanding of these critical areas. These activities may include problem-solving, collaborative work, and the use of technology. Students will also have the opportunity to practice and develop their skills through regular assignments and assessments.
