The purpose of this policy is to establish clear and uniform guidelines for the use of cell phones on school premises to ensure a focused, safe, and respectful learning environment for all students and staff.
This policy applies to all students and staff during school hours.
Students are required to keep their cell phones powered off or on silent mode and out of sight (in bags, pockets, lockers, or designated areas) during class time, unless specifically permitted by a teacher.
Staff should also minimize cell phone use during instructional time to model proper behavior and maintain a distraction-free learning environment.
In the event of an emergency, students should immediately notify a teacher or staff member if they need to use their phone to contact family or guardians.
In event of an emergency, guardians should notify the school and have the campus office inform the student at an appropriate time. Guardians should not be texting and calling students during class time.
Students may freely use their cell phones during breaks and lunch periods, provided they are being used responsibly, do not disturb others, and are not used with malicious intent.
The use of cell phones for activities unrelated to the educational process (such as texting, gaming, social media, and video streaming) is prohibited during class time.
Cell phones should not be used to record or photograph other students, staff, or events without explicit prior permission.
Staff have the discretion to confiscate cellular devices during class time, given that the device is stored in a secure location and is the responsibility of the staff member during the duration of confiscation.
Continued misuse can lead to a behavioral referral and administrative intervention. Administration can create policies and restrictions in collaboration with guardians if deemed necessary.
Students with special needs may request to use their cell phones as accommodations, and these requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by school administration and campus student support personnel.
Teachers may grant permission for cell phone use during class on a case-by-case basis at teacher discretion.
The school is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged cell phones during break, lunch, outside of school hours, or during school events. Students are encouraged to take care when bringing devices to school. The only instance where staff take responsibility for a device is when a device is confiscated, meaning the device should be put in a secure location.
