Chemistry
Santa Teresa High School's Chemistry course offers an engaging exploration into the fundamental nature of matter. This experimental science is highly recommended for students intending to pursue higher education, as it provides a solid foundation for various college majors. Chemistry is often referred to as the central science due to its significant overlap with other scientific disciplines. From engineering to public service, and even hair styling, a basic understanding of chemistry is essential in diverse career fields.
Throughout the course, students will delve into key topics, including the periodic table, atomic structure, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, energy involved with reactions, gases, solubility, acids and bases, and electrochemistry. These concepts provide a comprehensive understanding of the building blocks of matter and the chemical processes that govern our world.
Moreover, Chemistry is well-suited to meet the needs of non-science college majors, such as environmental studies and environmental management. It fulfills the physical science requirement of the ESUHSD curriculum and also satisfies the university lab science requirements.
While not mandatory, it is highly recommended that students have a solid foundation in mathematics, particularly Math 1, to succeed in this course. Prerequisites for Chemistry include completion of the Biology course.
By enrolling in Santa Teresa High School's Chemistry class, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the world of science, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and lay the groundwork for further scientific exploration in their academic journey.
